Kadayawan 2011 Indak Indak sa Kadalanan

One of Kadayawan's highlight that I am looking forward each year is the indak2x. This years Indak Indak, well to be honest, I am kinda disappointed. The performers were all just either walking or running. I already know that the performance will be judged near San Pedro near City Hall. Even though that was the plan this year, I was hoping for a little performance on the street on their part. A few performed a little but it was nothing compared to last year.

Well for the performers side(the contestants) who mostly are students, it was a relief on their part, since the kids wont be too tired when they reach the judges, no more performing on the street under the heat of the sun(but to tell you during that day, it was not sunny, the clouds are dark and it was due to rain).

Disappointed maybe, but still I have taken a few photos of the parade for you guys. I did not finish the parade because my interest and excitement has already gone out the window. I could have went to San Pedro to take photo during the performance but I know it will be too crowded, and you cant get near to get a decent photo, unless your a professional photographer who is under a organization, then maybe you can have access to a much nearer position. I hope things will be different next year, and hope that Sundays floral parade wont be like the indak indak.

A Peaceful 74th Araw ng Dabaw is greeted with Cheers and Rains

It was a successful celebration for the 74th Araw ng Dabaw, I arrive in the downtown area at about 9am, the parade has already started. I have noticed right away that the clouds a little dark, and I'm sure, rain will come pouring down, and it did at about 10:30 I think.

I didn't enjoy this years Araw ng Dabaw maybe because of the rain, or maybe the Kadayawan Fesitaval is much more to my liking, but the important thing is that the Festival was peaceful. Some Kapuso star participated on the parade, I only recognized Dingdong Dantes, the beautiful girl next to him was not familiar to me, she does look like Iya Villania, but who cares, she's sexy and hot hahahaha. Here are some photos of the parade I could have gotten more if not for the rain.

Ginum

Photobucket

Ginum is a Bagobo thanksgiving festival that may last for one to four days. Ginum means "to drink" or "drinking". Indeed the festivals features balaba (wine) in jars placed in each cornerof the long house of the datu, where the celebration takes place. A tambara or bamboo altar is placed in each of the various parts of the house. Two bamboo poles (patan-an) decorated with strips of palm leaves and cloth become the focus of the celebration. That is why the Ginum is also called pista sa kawayan or the bamboo festival.

In ancient practice, Ginum could include the display of enemy skulls mounted on the patan-an as offerings. The indigenous warriors boasted of their deeds. In some cases, the celebration included human sacrifice. Today, it is sufficient to offer a chicken, whose blood is made to drip onto the bamboo poles. Two mabalians or shamans (a man and a woman) and the datu or leading warrior lead the sacrificial offering.

Present Ginum celebrations focus on drinking, feasting, chanting and dancing to the music of gongs. People also put offerings on the mat prepared for the purpose. These offerings include beautiful clothing, knives and other expensive items. The people petition the spirits for abundant crops, good health, safe travel, and other blessings.
